Learn about the KKLC Advantage
THE KKLC MISSION
Our goal is to support children as they grow and explore. Kids Kottage is a place where children can connect with their culture through activities that promote understanding of different backgrounds. Our diverse staff helps children see the value of multiculturalism. We focus on creating a safe, caring space that helps each child develop in a healthy way. Early childhood skills start at home, but Kids Kottage helps bridge home and school life. We offer a warm, loving environment filled with learning and play. Our focus is on nurturing each child's growth in a supportive setting.
Behavior Guidance
Children face many challenges as they grow. Learning how to behave in social and emotional settings is one of those challenges. They need to learn self-control and how to interact well with peers and adults. At Kids Kottage Learning Center, staff give each child guidance to build a positive self-image and develop self-control. We also teach acceptable ways to behave.
Many schools follow a “Discipline Policy,” but we prefer a “Behavior Guidance Policy.” Discipline is often linked to punishment, which focuses on what adults do to control children’s actions. It can also mean using threats or punishments as consequences. We choose the word “guidance” because it covers all types of behavior, not just the negative ones. Our goal is to help children learn right from wrong through supportive guidance.
The Right Start
During the first 30 days of enrollment, every child goes through a screening to check their social, emotional, thinking, and physical growth. The Brigance screen, part of the Brigance system, is designed for children from birth to 23 months old. The goal of this screening is to get a clear picture of how children develop and learn. It recognizes that growth is a continuous process shaped by the child's skills and personality, the teachers' involvement, and their interactions. By measuring these factors, the Screen helps teachers track your child's progress, offer advice on encouraging development, and develop a personalized plan to support their learning and family needs.
The screening has two parts, the Parent-Child Interaction Report Form & Screening Observation Form.
Once the information is collected and organized, it is shared with your child's teacher and with you. Based on the results, your child will be placed in a classroom that matches their developmental level. An individual plan will be made to help strengthen areas that need more support. Recommendations are given based on the screen results and your input.
Throughout the year, teachers keep assessing each child's growth. This is done through both formal tests and casual observations. Teachers watch children closely, offer guidance, and keep track of their learning. They gather facts, analyze the information, and use what they learn to plan lessons for each child and the class as a whole.

OUR APPROACH
As a parent, we are sure that you want to know what our approach is to help you child’s development.
Our approach is centered on the early education of your child. We believe that a child’s day must include gentle guidance, personal attention and developmentally appropriate practices and activities. Our programs and curricula are designed to move your child ahead developmentally, get him ready for school and teach him important social skills.
We recognize that young children learn through hands-on experiences and believe that your child’s development will be enhanced by our approach of making the learning process fun.
