Curriculum and Assesment
Ensuring School Readiness:
Kindergartners will experience a program filled with activities that will foster a sense of independence, high self-esteem and a love of learning. Our private kindergarten program has been designed to meet and exceed State and Local school district requirements. In addition, students that have successfully completed the kindergarten program exceed NJ Core Curriculum Standards and they respectively score at a proficient or advanced proficient level on academic assessments and formalized test.
The Kindergarten curriculum includes:
Mathematics: Introduces concepts of elementary geometry, money, time and value and incorporates real objects for hands-on practice in:
- Counting
- Sorting
- Graphing
- Estimating
- Problem solving
- Measures
Science: Takes a "discovery" approach to learning about:
- Seasons
- Days, weeks and months
- Characteristics of animals and plants
- Good health
- The body and the five senses
- Caring for the environment
Literacy: The kindergarten literature-based program includes fiction, non-fiction and poetry designed to teach your child skills like:
- Listening
- Sharing ideas
- Conversation
- Phonological awareness
- Letters and words
- Comprehension
- Increased vocabulary and language
Zaner-Bloser Handwriting: Before entering first grade, your child will learn these basic skills:
- Write their names
- Write from left to right
- Write lower and uppercase letters from memory
- Tell stories which combine writing and illustration
Social Studies: Familiar elements like toys, games, show-and-tell, group discussions and guest speakers introduce your child to basic social concepts, like:
- Responsibility
- Tolerance and dignity
- The need for rules
- Diversity
- How money is used
- Tools and activities of various occupations
