MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Some schools refuse to administer over-the-counter medication and/or prescription medication. Their philosophy is that if a child must take medication, he/she is not well enough to participate in the program. Happily that is not the philosophy here at Kids Kottage. While we can not provide sick care for children with illnesses, we can absolutely provide medication for your son/daughter while he/she is in our care.

In order for us to administer medication the following guidelines must be strictly adhered to:

  • A parent/guardian must complete the “Authorization to Administer Medication form. This form includes the dose and time that the medication should be administered by our staff.
  • The medication must be stored in a locked medication box or refrigerator.
  • All prescription medication must be in its original container and it must have a label with the name of medication, the pharmacy that filled the prescription, and the directions for use.
  • All over-the-counter medication must contain the child’s first and last name, directions to administer, and a written parental consent form.
  • All medications must be taken home at the end of the day and all medication that is not taken home will be discarded.

In the event that your child falls ill and you have not provided over-the-counter medication nor an Authorization to Administer Medication form, the form must be completed and faxed to our administrative office and we will purchase the over-the-counter medication and administer it. The cost of the medication will be billed to the parent/guardian and the medication will be sent home.
