Medical Standards — illness and communicable diseases

ILLNESS

Kids Kottage Learning Center is not licensed to care for children who are too sick to participate in regularly scheduled activities, therefore, we ask all parents/guardians to refrain from bringing a sick child to school

Symptoms to watch out for include:

  • Severe pain or discomfort
  • Acute diarrhea
  • Two or more episodes of vomiting within a period of 24 hours
  • Elevated oral temperature of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit or over
  • Auxiliary temperature of 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit or over

Once a child is symptom free, or a health care provider indicates that the child poses no serious health risk to himself or herself or to other children, the child may return to the center. Children that have had a fever must be fever free for 24 hours. Children that have had two or more episodes of vomiting or diarrhea must be free of symptoms for 24 hours.

If your child will be absent due to illness, we request that you notify the center ASAP. If a child has been absent for 2 or more days we will contact the parent/guardian for an update on the child and the illness.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

Kids Kottage follows all health/communicable disease policies as outlined in the American Academy of Pediatrics Model Health Policies and Procedures Manual. Any child that exhibits symptoms of a communicable disease will be excluded from participation in the program. The child will not be permitted to return to the program until they are no longer contagious. Guidelines for determining the contagious period for a specific illness are based on the recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics. A child may return to the program if he/she has a doctor’s note stated they are no longer contagious and that he/she may return to the program. Kids Kottage does reserve the right to refuse to allow a child to return if the health professional believes the child to be too ill to participate In the program.

Excludable Communicable Diseases

  • Respiratory Illnesses
  • Gastro-Intestinal Illnesses
  • Contact Illnesses

If your child is exposed to any excludable disease at Kids Kottage, information will be posted for your notification. If we are aware that a child in the Center has a communicable disease or infection, we will contact all the families to indicate that their children may have been exposed and to inform them of possible symptoms to watch for.
